Ukraine: Zelenskyy Accuses Russia of Using Chinese Satellites to Target Nuclear Plants

Zelensky Accuses Russia of Using Chinese Satellites to Target Ukrainian Nuclear Power Plants

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused Russia of using **Chinese satellites** to gather intelligence on Ukrainian nuclear power plants, raising concerns about a potential attack on these facilities.

In an exclusive interview with ABC’s “Good Morning America” anchor Robin Roberts, Zelenskyy stated that Russia’s use of satellites for reconnaissance is a “**nuclear terror**” threat. He claimed that Russia’s actions create a heightened risk of strikes on nuclear facilities. While Zelenskyy did not specify whether the satellites were commercial or government-operated, he said he would share the information with world leaders who could influence Russia.

China’s embassy in Washington has yet to respond to the accusations.

This allegation comes amidst growing concern about China’s support for Russia in its war against Ukraine. While China has not directly provided weapons to Russia, Western countries have expressed concerns about Beijing’s increasing assistance to Moscow, including the provision of military components.

Experts have warned that Russia’s attacks targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, particularly the transformer substations connected to nuclear power plants, pose a significant threat to nuclear safety. Damage to these substations can disrupt the functioning of key reactor systems and prevent the plants from supplying energy to the grid.

The **potential targeting of nuclear facilities** adds another layer of complexity to the ongoing conflict. It also highlights the potential for escalation and raises concerns about the global consequences of a nuclear incident.

The full interview with Zelenskyy and his wife, Olena Zelenska, will air on ABC News Live on Wednesday at 8:30 p.m. ET and stream on Hulu on Thursday.
