OpenAI’s Interim CEO Mira Murati Steps Down
OpenAI’s interim CEO, Mira Murati, has announced her departure from the company. In a post on X, Murati stated, “I’m stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my own exploration. For now, my primary focus is doing everything in my power to ensure a smooth transition, maintaining the momentum we’ve built.”
This announcement comes almost a year after a boardroom coup shook the AI startup and temporarily ousted CEO Sam Altman, leaving Murati as its temporary leader. Murati stepped into the role after Altman was removed by the board, only to be reinstated days later following a public outcry.
Prior to OpenAI, Murati worked at Tesla on its AI efforts. Her departure marks another significant change for the rapidly evolving AI company, which has been at the center of numerous controversies surrounding the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
