Michelle Pfeiffer and David E. Kelley Break Their 31-Year Rule
Michelle Pfeiffer and her husband, renowned screenwriter and producer David E. Kelley, are finally working together for the first time in their 31-year marriage. The couple, who have famously avoided collaborating professionally, are joining forces for the upcoming AppleTV+ series “Margo’s Got Money Troubles.”
Pfeiffer announced the news on Instagram, stating, “2025 is already off to a great start! Excited to be in such fabulous company on this one,” while tagging Elle Fanning, Nicole Kidman, and Kelley’s production company.
The decision marks a departure from Pfeiffer’s long-held belief that working with her husband would be “too risky.” In a 2021 interview with The New Yorker, she explained, “I’ve seen a lot of couples where they seem to have a really great marriage, and then they work together and next year they’re filing for divorce.”
Pfeiffer and Kelley, who met on a blind date in 1993, have maintained a strong professional and personal boundary throughout their relationship. However, Pfeiffer has consistently praised Kelley’s writing for its ability to portray strong female characters. “Nobody writes, honestly, better for women than he does,” she acknowledged during an appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.”
Despite her admiration for his work, Pfeiffer’s concern for the potential strain on their marriage ultimately led her to avoid professional collaborations. As she explained, “We’re both kind of fierce when we work, and so if I come home, and I’ve had a bad day, and I’m upset about something, I want him to be on my side because he hasn’t heard the other side. There’s value in that.”
It remains to be seen how their collaboration on “Margo’s Got Money Troubles” will impact their relationship, but the news has generated considerable excitement among fans and industry insiders alike. The project promises a compelling dynamic between the two creative powerhouses and a potential exploration of their personal and professional chemistry.
