Magic Johnson Offers Advice: Bronny James Should Spend a Season in the G League
Magic Johnson has weighed in on Bronny James’ readiness for the NBA, suggesting that the young player should spend a season in the G League before joining the Los Angeles Lakers.
During an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” the NBA legend explained that while many are eager to see LeBron James and his son take the court together in the 2024-25 season, he believes Bronny would benefit from more development time.
“If I’m Bronny, I would tell my dad, ‘just let me play in the G League all season so that I can develop,'” Johnson advised.
He emphasized that consistent playing time, which Bronny may not get on the Lakers bench, would be key to his growth.
“That’s not a knock against him, he’s just not ready,” Johnson said. “He needs to develop more and then he will be ready because he has some great talent and skills, but he needs to develop those skills at a much better clip if he wants to play 15-20 minutes a night in the NBA or more.”
Although Johnson no longer holds an official role with the Lakers, his deep connection with the team makes his opinion significant.
