Kia to Open Tesla Supercharger Network to EV Owners in January
Kia has announced that its electric vehicles will gain access to **more than 16,500** Tesla Superchargers starting **January 15th, 2025**. The automaker will provide **free NACS adapters** to owners who purchased their **EV9 or EV6** after **September 4th, 2024**. However, all existing Kia EV owners will have to purchase the adapter for an **as-yet unspecified price**.
The **free adapters** will begin being shipped to customers in **early 2025**, while current owners can buy the adapter from authorized Kia dealers “**at a later date**”. This follows a similar announcement made last week by GM, which stated that all its EV customers would have to pay **$225** for the NACS adapter to access Tesla Superchargers.
In preparation for future Kia EV models featuring native Tesla connectors, Kia will begin selling adapters to allow its vehicles to utilize **CCS-based DC fast chargers and level 2 AC chargers**. Additionally, Kia plans to release a **software update in early 2025** so customers can **pay and charge directly through the in-car infotainment system**.
Kia and its sister company Hyundai were among the last major automakers to announce their adoption of Tesla’s **NACS** (North American Charging Standard) connector over the CCS Combo plug. So far, **Ford, Rivian, and GM** are the only automakers that have already enabled Tesla Supercharger access.
