**BOSTON** – The co-founder of OceanGate Expeditions, the company that owned the submersible Titan which imploded in June, is set to testify before the U.S. Coast Guard this week.

Guillermo Sohnlein, who co-founded OceanGate with Stockton Rush (who perished in the incident), will be questioned by investigators as part of their ongoing investigation into the tragedy. The Coast Guard is hoping to gain insights into the design, construction, and operation of the submersible, as well as OceanGate’s safety protocols.

The Titan, carrying five passengers including Rush, was exploring the wreckage of the Titanic when it lost contact with its support ship on June 18. After a frantic search, debris from the submersible was discovered on the seabed, confirming its implosion.

The Coast Guard investigation is expected to be comprehensive and could result in recommendations aimed at improving the safety of deep-sea submersibles in the future. Sohnlein’s testimony is expected to be crucial in providing a firsthand account of OceanGate’s practices and the circumstances leading up to the disaster.

The investigation is also likely to examine the role of carbon fiber in the submersible’s construction, as it is believed to have played a role in the implosion.

The Coast Guard has not yet specified the exact date and time of Sohnlein’s testimony.
