Alaska Airlines Grounds Seattle Flights Due to Technology Glitch
SEATTLE — Alaska Airlines briefly grounded its flights in Seattle on Sunday night due to “significant disruptions” caused by an unspecified technology problem. The issue, which began in the evening, was resolved by approximately 10 p.m. local time.
The airline acknowledged the delays and problems with its app and website on X, apologizing to affected customers. It later announced the problem had been resolved. The exact cause of the disruption remains unclear.
“If you are traveling today, please check your flight status before leaving for the airport. If your schedule allows, please change or cancel your flight,” the airline advised in a statement on its website. “We apologize for the inconvenience and are working quickly to resolve the issue.”
This incident adds to a recent string of travel disruptions in Seattle. Last week, the operator of Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), the main hub for Alaska Airlines, revealed that hackers had demanded $6 million in bitcoin in exchange for documents stolen during a cyberattack in August. The stolen data was subsequently posted on the dark web. The Port of Seattle, which owns and operates SEA, has stated that it will not pay the ransom.
