## A Race Against Time: Lebanese Doctor Fights to Save Sight After Exploding Tech Devices

BEIRUT – Dr. Elias Khalil, a renowned ophthalmologist in Beirut, is battling a new wave of patients, their eyes critically injured by exploding tech devices. The surge in cases, linked to faulty batteries in cell phones and e-cigarettes, has pushed Khalil and his team into a frantic race against time to save the sight of their patients.

“It used to be a rare occurrence, but now we’re seeing multiple patients a week with severe eye injuries from these explosions,” said Dr. Khalil, his brow furrowed with concern. “The damage is often extensive, involving burns, ruptures, and even detachment of the retina.”

The injuries, he explained, occur when the battery of a device malfunctions, causing a sudden, violent explosion. The shrapnel, often mixed with corrosive chemicals, can cause devastating damage to the eye, leading to blindness if not treated promptly.

“In some cases, we can save partial vision, but there are others where the damage is too severe,” he lamented. “It’s heartbreaking to see young people, often children, lose their sight because of these accidents.”

The recent uptick in incidents has prompted the Lebanese Ministry of Health to issue a warning to the public, urging them to be cautious with their electronic devices. The ministry has also launched a campaign to educate the public on the dangers of faulty batteries and how to identify signs of a malfunctioning device.

“Safety should always be paramount,” Khalil urged, his voice filled with the urgency of his mission. “If you notice any unusual signs with your device, like swelling, overheating, or unusual sounds, stop using it immediately and seek professional help.”

Dr. Khalil’s tireless efforts are a testament to the dedication of medical professionals who go above and beyond to help their patients in times of crisis. As the race against time continues, he and his team remain steadfast, determined to give hope to those who have lost their sight, one patient at a time.
