Presidents Cup: Kim and Scheffler’s Friendly Rivalry Heats Up
The Presidents Cup teed off on Thursday, kicking off the four-day team tournament between Team USA and Team International. While Team USA is expected to win, the competition promises excitement thanks to friendly rivalries like that of Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler.
Kim, who became a fan favorite in 2022 with his enthusiastic celebrations, showed he’s still got that spark. On the seventh hole, he sunk a birdie putt from 30 feet and celebrated with gusto. But Scheffler, no stranger to a good match, responded with a birdie of his own from 28 feet, making sure Kim knew about it.
“What was that? Nah-ah,” Scheffler yelled at Kim as his putt dropped.
Despite the friendly banter, Kim and Scheffler are good friends. And Scheffler continued to show his good humor, even when Kim sank another long putt and celebrated close by. Scheffler picked up Kim’s ball from the hole and gave it to him, but couldn’t match Kim’s shot, missing his putt and giving the lead back to Kim and his partner, Sungjae Im.
These two have history, facing off in the final round of the Olympics last month, a match Scheffler won. This time, Scheffler’s already record-breaking season, which included his second Masters win in three years and over $54 million in prize money, is on the line.
But Kim is ready for the challenge, making this weekend’s battle in Montreal one to watch.
