OpenAI’s Chief Technology Officer Mira Murati Departs
SAN FRANCISCO — **Mira Murati**, OpenAI’s chief technology officer, announced Wednesday that she will be leaving the artificial intelligence company. In a written statement, Murati expressed that after much reflection, she has “made the difficult decision to leave OpenAI.”
“I’m stepping away because I want to create the time and space to do my own exploration,” she stated.
Murati spoke highly of the company and its CEO **Sam Altman** in her departing statement, describing OpenAI as “at the pinnacle of AI innovation.” She acknowledged the difficulty of leaving a place she cherishes.
Murati’s departure comes after a tumultuous period for OpenAI. Late last year, the company’s board of directors fired Altman, leading to a period of upheaval in the AI industry. Murati was thrust into the role of interim CEO during this brief period. The company subsequently brought in another interim CEO before ultimately reinstating Altman as CEO and replacing the majority of the board members who had initially removed him.
